Fourth-year Colorado football defender Trevor Woods has gained some significant weight ahead of his first full season at linebacker.

While speaking with the media on Monday following CU’s first practice of fall camp, the former safety appeared noticeably bigger compared to last season. Woods, who stands 6-foot-2, confirmed that he gained about 20 pounds in less than one year, jumping from 198 to 217.

“I’m way bigger and I’m way stronger right now,” Woods said. “I was 198 (pounds), I remember, my first game at linebacker. Right now, I was 217 this morning.”

Woods made the switch from safety to linebacker about midway through last season and navigated the position change fairly well. In four games at his new position, he tallied 26 total tackles, 0.5 TFLs and one pass breakup.

At Big 12 media days earlier this month, Colorado head coach Deion Sanders even compared Woods to NFL great Brian Urlacher .

Hopefully, Woods can maintain his increased weight throughout fall camp.

“I feel a lot more comfortable in it,” Woods said of his development at linebacker. “We’re gonna get the pads on soon, but I feel a lot more comfortable playing against the linemen and stuff like that. It’s a lot better at this point.”
