In the days since Vice President Kamala Harris launched her presidential bid, a surge of Colorado volunteers has joined her cause , her campaign says.
By the numbers: As of last week, the campaign had already amassed nearly 6,000 Colorado volunteers, according to numbers shared with Axios Denver by the Harris campaign.
- More than 550 people joined a virtual campaign call hosted by Colorado's top Democrats earlier this week, per the campaign.
Why it matters: It signals a "groundswell of support" in the Centennial State, spokesperson Raul Contreras tells us, and offers an example of the momentum Harris has gained in a short amount of time.
The big picture: Harris has built a solid base of support in the state, particularly among women, that dates back to her 2020 run for the White House.
State of play: The Harris campaign has hired Serena Woods as senior adviser to its state team in Colorado.
- Woods now holds the highest-ranking Colorado campaign position, tasked with steering its strategy on a tight deadline.
Zoom in: Woods, who was born and raised in Evergreen, brings nearly two decades of experience as a strategic communications and campaign strategist.
- Her most recent positions were as the senior adviser of strategy and communication for Colorado Gov. Jared Polis and as the communications director for the secretary of state.
- She was also the deputy campaign manager and led communications for Democratic gubernatorial candidate Cary Kennedy in 2018.
What's next: Harris' state team is ramping up hiring with plans to announce a Colorado state director and more staff in the coming days, Contreras tells us.
