Some of you didn't bother reading the article I see. No crimes involving children or DV are eligible. If you commit another crime within 7 years they won't seal your record, and if you commit another crime after it's been sealed, they reopen the records. I feel like if you've gone 7 years without committing a crime, having a misdemeanor offense sealed isn't a bad thing. There isn't anyone among us who hasn't done something wrong, and if it's been 7 to 10 years, and was a nonviolent offense, seal the record and move on. If for some reason they commit a crime after it's been sealed, the DA can still use the past offense against them, just like they've always been able to. People have always been able to seal their records, this simply saves the state money by avoiding the hearings and a magistrate having to read the petition and signing off on the order to expunge or seal.
