KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) – Recent findings indicate that the Keene wastewater treatment facility is registering some of the highest COVID-19 concentrations in New Hampshire. This development mirrors a national trend, as over half of U.S. states are detecting increased virus levels in wastewater, per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The N.H. Department of Health and Human Services launched a wastewater monitoring program in late 2022, encompassing 14 treatment facilities across the state, including Keene, to provide early warnings of potential COVID-19 surges.
Keene SwampBats Drop Doubleheader at Vineyard
The Martha’s Vineyard Sharks swept the SwampBats 7-3 and 2-1 in a pair of seven inning games. In game one, Martha’s Vineyard batted first as the provisional road team for a rescheduled game. The Sharks hit three singles in a row to start the game and plate one run. A fielder’s choice doubled the lead as the SwampBats recorded their first out. Pitcher Ben Shenosky (Penn State) settled in after that, retiring seven of the next eight batters through the third. Bryce Molinaro (Penn State) led off the bottom of the third with a single through the left side. As JD Jones (Rutgers) got ready for a 3-2 pitch, Molinaro took off from first. Jones laced a base hit to right-center, and Molinaro chugged all the way around third to dive home safely on the single. Joe Jaconski (Penn State) scored Jones with a monster double to the wall in left-center, and then came home on a David Mendez (Vanderbilt) single up the middle which gave the SwampBats a 3-2 lead. The Sharks tied it with a solo home run in the top of the fourth, but Shenosky got the next three outs quickly, finishing his four-strikeout outing by picking off a runner at first base.

Massachusetts issues tighter restrictions on access to homeless shelter system
BOSTON (AP) — Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey unveiled new restrictions Tuesday on the state’s homeless family shelter programs. Beginning Aug. 1, families that are not prioritized for placement in emergency assistance shelters will be eligible to stay at overflow sites for just five days. Healey said she was tightening restrictions on emergency assistance system eligibility because of the system’s “continuing capacity constraints” and the need to protect its financial sustainability — in part due to the influx of migrants to the state. Families will be prioritized for placement in emergency assistance shelters if they have been made homeless by a no-fault eviction or by sudden or unusual circumstances beyond their control, such as a flood or fire. They will also be prioritized if at least one family member is a veteran, Healey said.
