Pierre Man Arrested After Tussle With Pierre Police Officer
PIERRE, (KCCR) — A Pierre man is facing charges following an altercation with a Pierre police officer Friday night. Pierre Police Captain Dusty Pelle says offices were dispatched around 8:40 pm to the 800 block of east Sioux Avenue to the report of a person being disorderly. Upon arrival, the suspect, identified by police as 35 year-old Torin Dewitt began to walk away from the officer. After being asked by the officer to stop Dewitt began to run. The officer trailed Dewitt in a patrol vehicle as Dewitt ran into dead end. The officer stopped and exited his vehicle when Dewitt attempted to run past the officer. The officer grabbed Dewitt’s arm causing both men to fall to the ground where Dewitt continued to fight with the officer. Dewitt was eventually taken into custody. A knife was found near Dewitt and the investigation determined Dewitt attempted to pull the weapon on the officer but lost control of the knife. Dewitt was taken to the Hughes County Jail on charges including Obstructing an Officer, Disorderly Conduct and Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer.
