Mike McNeill’s Diary for Monday, June 24, 2024: A good day for democracy
We hosted Direct Democracy Day on Saturday, accepting signatures from registered voters who want to give Arkansans the right to vote on several important issues in November. We saw high school friends, talked about politics and local news, signed up people strolling with babies, and met people from Ouachita, Miller and Lafayette counties who came here specifically to sign petitions. We gave water to thirsty dogs. It was hot! But spending a few hours outdoors on the hottest day of the year is a small price to pay for democracy. We thought it would be a bit of a drudge, but there was a steady stream of signers throughout our petition drive. Magnolia and Columbia County continues to do its part to get these important issues on the November general election ballot.
Region under heat advisory through Tuesday night
