Committee looks at busing options for county residents
HUDSON–The proposed Chatham-to-Hudson Bus, for which NY State made $200,000 available, thanks to help from Assemblymember Didi Barrett (D-106th) and Senator Michelle Hinchey (D-41st) (May 24 article by David Lee) may run only one or two days a week, according to options discussed by the Columbia County Board of Supervisors Transportation Subcommittee on June 13. Furthermore, one option would include discontinuing public bus service to Ancramdale and Copake. In addition, once the county agrees on a Chatham service option, it could take “at least a year” for the service to begin, estimated committee chairman Michael Chameides, supervisor of Hudson’s Third Ward. Still, the Chatham bus might have more than one round trip on the days it does run. The next step is talking with community residents and officials to get a feel of where and at what time potential riders want the bus to go, as well as estimate the ridership and thus the needed bus size.
