In middle school or high school, students may not know what career they will ultimately pursue.

But they might get a nudge in the right direction at Scappoose Middle School, on Wednesday, May 15, as speakers representing 16 different career clusters will be on hand at a career fair, between the hours of 1 p.m. and 2 p.m.

The career fair will feature local community members and business owners.

Dianne Paul, a school counseling intern at the middle school, said, “Students will attend two talks of their choice. At the end of the day, after the two talks, we’re going to have a school-wide assembly where someone is going to come in and talk about employability skills.”

Paul said the career fair will feature local businesses and groups, including Columbia Pacific Food Bank, Topaz Farm and the Oregon Manufacturing Innovation Center in Scappoose.

Career clusters at the fair include agriculture, food, and natural resources; agriculture and construction; business, management, administration; finance; and health science.

Paul said it will be a hands-on experience for students.

“I’m super excited about it because there’s going to be a lot of hands-on stuff, a lot of presentations,” she said. “Students can see what kind of careers fall into these clusters, how they can apply their education towards their future career, and maybe even think about their career cluster in a way they haven’t before.”

For more information on the career fair, contact the Scappoose Middle School at 971-200-8004 and ask for Dianne Paul or Nick Jenkins.
