    Things to do: First Fridays, Bad Idea 5th anniversary, Muletown Jamboree and movies

    Wrap up the short week by celebrating September First Fridays, have a cold one for a small business, throw down at a fun Jamboree dinner party or enjoy movies in the park.

    1. First Fridays & Strolling on 6th

    Columbia's monthly First Fridays will once again hit the streets of downtown this weekend with vendors, live music and community.

    As always, First Fridays events will run from 5-8 p.m.

    This month's highlights will include a Merchant Marketplace and Fall Open House at Baxter's Mercantile, 808 S. Garden St., from 5-8 p.m. Baxter's will also host a tailgate party from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., which will feature food cooked on the grill and kids' door prize giveaway from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

    Packard Playhouse, 614 N. Main St., will host a First Friday Comedy Night starting at 7 p.m. featuring Paul Aldrich and Rik Roberts. Tickets range from $10-$30 and are available at www.PackardPlayhouse.com .

    B's Salty & Sweet will also have a tent and table set up for customers to taste the business' quality baked goods at its new 510 N. Garden St. location. Quantities will be limited, and so be sure to stop by early to pick up items like fresh granola, cookies and breads.

    Also, be sure not to miss Maury Alliance's monthly Strolling on 6th along West 6th Street, which will feature more First Fridays fun like live music, business pop-ups, food trucks and prize giveaways.

    2. Bad Idea 5th Anniversary

    Can you believe it's been five years since Bad Idea Brewing first opened its taps for business?

    Celebrate the Columbia brewery's fifth anniversary starting at 5 p.m. Friday, with co-founder Zac Fox tapping a special birthday firkin at 6 p.m.

    Bad Idea is located at 510 N. Garden St. and is housed alongside Ollie & Finn's sandwich shop.

    The birthday brew will feature a blended ale with lemon peel, orange, vanilla and limoncello.

    Also be sure to treat yourself to one of Ollie & Finn's signature sandwiches, as well as Loose Wheels smash burgers available in the parking lot.

    3. Muletown Jamboree at Building Block

    Visit the Building Block School for The Arts, 1309 S. Main St., for a night of hilarity and song.

    Building Block will host Muletown Jamboree, featuring some of the school's teaching artists, as well as a variety of local talent ready to entertain.

    Dinner will include a plate of chicken, baked bean delight, mashed potatoes and cobbler for dessert.

    Tickets are $35 per person and are available at www.BuildingBlockArts.com.

    4. Movie Night in Gardenia Park

    Spend your Saturday evening out at Gardenia Park, 123 Gardenia St. in Mt. Pleasant, for a special movie night.

    Mt. Pleasant Parks & Recreation will present a screening of the new Netflix film "If" which is suitable for all ages.

    Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs, blankets and snacks, although popcorn and "cool pops" will be available.

    Movie Night at Gardenia Park is also free to attend.

    5. Live entertainment

    The Bird & The Bear will perform at Buck and Board, 100 W. 5th St., starting at 6 p.m. Friday.

    November Blue will perform at McCreary's Irish Pub & Eatery, 814 S. Main St., starting at 7 p.m. Friday.

    Golden Soul Revue will perform at Grinder's Switch Winery, 510 N. Garden St., starting at 7 p.m. Friday.

    Smokin' Peas will perform at Fozzy's Bar & Grill, 150 Stephen P. Yokich Parkway in Spring Hill, starting at 8 p.m. Friday.

    Kamber will perform at Buck and Board, 100 W. 5th St., starting at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

    Tom Saffell and Robert Johnson will perform at McCreary's Irish Pub & Eatery, 814 S. Main St., starting at 7 p.m. Saturday.

    Jessee Kramer and The Hwy 12 Band will perform at The Rebel Bar and Grill, 307 Riverside Drive, starting at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

    Southbound Crows will perform at The Boondox, 3543 Highway 431, starting at 8 p.m. Saturday.

    8-Track will perform at Fozzy's Bar & Grill, 150 Stephen P. Yokich Parkway in Spring Hill, starting at 8 p.m. Saturday.

    Cave Street will perform at Twisted Copper Brewing Company, 119 S. Main St. in Mt. Pleasant, starting at 7 p.m. Saturday.

    DNR will perform at The Rebel Bar and Grill, 307 Riverside Drive, starting at 4 p.m. Sunday.

    Golden Soul Revue will perform at Puckett's in downtown Columbia starting at 6 p.m. Sunday.
