Logboat Brewing revs new engine with mobile Car Bar

Columbia beer lovers relish the chance to visit Logboat Brewing Company on its Fay Street turf, a spot marked by its cold taps, warm welcomes and green vistas.

Now Logboat is making it easier to come to you, Columbia.

The brewery is revving a new engine with the announcement of its Car Bar in a recent promotional video created by Bussen Productions. "A mobile Logboat bar experience," the Car Bar resembles a food truck, with beer and cider lines and the capacity to serve other types of liquor and wine as well.

The Car Bar is available for service at corporate events, weddings and other large private events as well as simple "backyard get-togethers," Logboat's offsite events coordinator Chelsea Jernigan said in the video.

"Where'd the Car Bar come from? It came from our wildest dreams," Jernigan says in the clip.

After renovating its taproom and brewing facility on Fay Street, Logboat felt ready to expand in other directions, Jernigan said in an email to the Tribune.

"Having a mobile bar has been on our drafting table for a couple of years and it was the right time to pull the trigger and see where this can take us," Jernigan said. "There is more on the wildest dream coming."

The Logboat crew is open to all manner of events, and "we try to say 'yes' as much as possible," Jernigan said. The primary limitation is "public vending events," Jernigan added, which require different types of liability insurance and "hoops" to jump through.

Most mobile events will be set in stone weeks in advance, Jernigan said, and a longer lead time is preferable. But Jernigan and Co. want the Car Bar to be a flexible endeavor, responsive to shorter-notice bookings too.

"With enough notice for an event, we can have a conversation with the clients about specific products they may want or special requests," Jernigan said.

Coming directly to the community via the Car Bar brings a distinct set of challenges and, Jernigan believes, rewards.

"This mobile bar will deepen the roots within the community because it gives more people a chance to have a fun, colorful, and delicious experience with us," Jernigan said. "Thinking outside the box and building this has stretched the possibilities in the best way."
