Star Missouri football wide receiver Luther Burden III is "unlikely to return" to Missouri football's game against Buffalo due to illness, according to a team spokesperson.

The wideout went to the locker room late in the first half of the Tigers ' game against Buffalo on Saturday and did not come out ahead of the second half. Since this is an illness, it is unlikely to impact the wide receiver beyond the Buffalo game.

The SEC Network+ broadcast and Tiger Radio Network sideline reporter Chris Gervino both said the receiver was suffering from an illness.

Burden put Missouri in the end zone for the first time in Saturday's game on the opening drive of the second quarter, taking a handoff from Brady Cook, breaking the left edge and running in for the score. He took heavy contact during the play to his left shoulder but didn't appear to be hurt.

On the next drive, Burden was not targeted but was involved in Cook's rushing touchdown, as the quarterback faked a pitch to him on third-and-goal before taking the keeper into the end zone.

"Luther Burden has been dealing with an illness all week," MU coach Eli Drinkwitz said postgame. "After he scored his touchdown, he just didn't feel good. We didn't feel like it was worth putting him back in the game."
