After all of Saturday’s chaos that resulted in an unlikely comeback win, Missouri football moved in the polls.

    Moved down in the polls.

Mizzou came in at No. 17 in the Week 9 edition of the US LBM Coaches Poll that was released Sunday, which is down one spot from the previous week. Mizzou jumped above Ole Miss, but was leapfrogged by Indiana and Kansas State to fall one place in the rankings.

Missouri (6-1, 2-1 SEC) staged an 11-point, fourth-quarter comeback to defeat Auburn on Saturday and avoid crashing out of contention for both the SEC Championship and the College Football Playoff.

The biggest story of the game, however, was outside of the stadium for most of the game, as quarterback Brady Cook spent time in the hospital with an ankle injury before returning late in the third quarter to lead the comeback.

Indiana blew Nebraska out, 56-7, and remains undefeated. Kansas State defeated West Virginia 45-18 on the road to improve to 6-1.

There’s a new team at the top of the rankings, as Oregon jumped Texas for the No. 1 spot.

The Ducks, who shut out Purdue on Friday, lead a healthy Big Ten group at the top end of the top 25. Penn State is No. 3 and Ohio State is No. 4.

Georgia is now the top-ranked team in the SEC at No. 2 in the country after defeating Texas on the road. The Longhorns tumbled all the way to No. 6.

Alabama, Missouri’s next opponent Saturday in Tuscaloosa, dropped eight spots to No. 15 after a 24-17 loss to Tennessee on Saturday. The Vols moved up two places to No. 8, which is one spot behind LSU at No. 7.

Elsewhere in the top 10, undefeated Miami is now No. 5 and Clemson is No. 9. Undefeated Iowa State is the lone Big 12 representative in the top 10, coming in at No. 10.

In the SEC, Texas A&M stayed put at No. 14, and Ole Miss is one place behind Mizzou at No. 18. Vanderbilt, which Missouri defeated in Week 4, moved into the polls at No. 25. Oklahoma was the first team out last week but is no longer receiving votes.

Missouri falls two spots in AP poll

The national media voters gave Mizzou an even harsher assessment than the coaches.

Missouri football is the No. 21 team in the latest AP Top 25 poll, down two spots from the previous week.

The Tigers were jumped by Pittsburgh and Illinois in the AP poll, teams they remained ranked ahead of by the coaches. Ole Miss and Boise State also stayed ahead of MU in the AP rankings, making up the rest of the four-team gap between MU’s ranking in the polls.

The national voters have a similar-looking top 10, with Oregon, Georgia, Penn State and Ohio State, in order, as the top four teams. Texas is No. 5, staying ahead of Miami at No. 6.

Tennessee and LSU are the seventh- and eighth-ranked teams, respectively, with Clemson at No. 9 and Iowa State at No. 10 rounding out the top 10.

In the SEC, Texas A&M is No. 14 in the AP poll, and Alabama will take the No. 15 ranking — down eight spots — into its matchup Saturday with Mizzou. Vanderbilt is ranked at No. 25, and South Carolina received one voting point.

The polls have never ever favored Missouri. It's like Missouri College football is the Blacksheep of the college football family.
