Park Center/Columbia Heights/Maranatha Academy baseball played its penultimate week of the regular season last week, playing five games from May 13 to 17, winning two, both in the Tri-Metro Conference.

The Pirates took on Holy Angels in a doubleheader last week that provided the Pirates one last chance to battle for the conference title after an impressive regular season. The Stars, however, were ready to fight and earned a 7-6 in the first game on May 14 to win the conference championship.

The two teams then rematched on May 15 with pride and data still on the line. The Pirates made a statement of intent with a 5-3 win on May 15 to secure a 10-4 Tri-Metro Conference record for the season, their best conference record in several years.

Adam Aasen starred with nine strikeouts from six and two-thirds innings pitched. He also hit two RBI from four at-bats. Gresyn Rennie scored two runs against Holy Angels, while Nolah Schneider, Cullen O’Rourke, and Ty Lovcik added one each. Schneider and Beau Bratsch also hit an RBI each.

The win was followed by a difficult 12-1 loss to Coon Rapids at home as the Pirates looked to end the season with a competitive run of non-conference games.

The Pirates ended the week by losing 6-2 to Breck at home on May 17. Bratsch scored both runs in the game with RBI from Lovcik and Cooper Peterson. The Pirates ended the week with an 11-7 overall record.

The Pirates will play one game the following week to conclude their regular season, traveling to Robbinsdale Armstrong on May 20 (after this edition went to press).
