    Hawks compete at Tri-Metro track and field meet

    Cooper track and field took part in the Tri-Metro Conference meet from May 14 to 16 hosted at Columbia Heights High School.

    The boys squad took seventh with 56 points, 4.5 shy of sixth place St. Anthony Village. The girls were 10th with 5 points.

    Tacarie Siner took second in the boys 100-meter dash with a time of 11.24 seconds, followed by Milos Athias Finn in fifth. Siner was second again in the 200 meters at 23.13, while Finn moved up to third with a time of 23.20. Akram Bari was Cooper’s sole finisher in the 400 meters, earning eighth. Mailk Williams was ninth of 11 in the 800 meters and also took fourth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.82. Pha-A-Thit Vongsoury was Cooper’s highest finisher in the 1600, earning a time of 5:45.32.

    Cooper finished third in the 4x100 boys relay with a team of Amari Davison, Finn, Siner, and Sheldon Obonyo, with a time of 43.85. Cooper also took fifth in the 4x200 and seventh in both the 4x400 and 4x800.

    Israel Ogunleye earned an impressive finish in the field, earning third place in the triple jump with a mark of 41 feet, 1.25 inches. Rassan Alexander took sixth in that event. Savion Gayden continued a positive year of results in boys shot put with a 10th-place finish at a mark of 35-7. Gayden also took eighth in the discus with a mark of 98-4. Mansohn Grupee finished highest for the Hawks in the boys pole vault, taking 10th with a mark of 8-6, while Gregory Wheeler’s mark of 18-5 took him to 11th in the long jump.

    Attoria McDonald impressed with a four-place finish amongst a competitive group in the girls 100-meter hurdles, earning a time of 17.73. She also took 14th in the 200-meter prelims. Folake Olusesi earned 16th in girls discus with a mark of 54-9.

    The Hawks also took part in the Section 6AA prelims last week, held at Rockford High School. The finals for the Section 6AA meet were held Thursday, May 30.
