18-year-old man killed in Columbia shooting

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

An 18-year-old man was killed in a Thursday shooting in the 3300 block of Premier Lane in northeast Columbia.

Columbia Police Department spokesman Brian McNeill said Thursday that two suspects remained at large and there is a danger to the public. They are considered armed and dangerous. Descriptions of the suspects were not immediately available.

Police identified the victim Friday as Derek Silvey, 18. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

McNeill stated first responders rendered aid to the victim when they arrived at 8:50 p.m. McNeill said there is no indication where the suspects are and did not say how many shots were fired at the scene.

An ABC 17 News reporter saw as many as 10 law enforcement officers Columbia Police Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol, Boone County Sheriff’s Office, as well as an ambulance and crime scene van. The ambulance had left the scene. A MSHP helicopter was flying over the area searching for the suspects.

Police tape was displayed near a residence. A distraught woman was seen and heard in the area. Law enforcement officers were searching the neighborhood with flashlights.

A neighborhood told ABC 17 News that they heard shots being fired. Another neighbor said they saw a man waiving his hands and then run into a wooded area. A woman was heard yelling "my brother's been shot!"

The reporter saw a man placed in handcuffs at 9:55 p.m. who was eventually placed into the patrol vehicle. Another person was seen placed in handcuffs before 10:20 p.m. McNeill could not confirm if either were suspects.
