Columbia Housing Authority is planning more renovations at its Bear Creek Family Townhomes thanks to an American Rescue Plan Act allocation from the Boone County Commission.

CHA was awarded $835,000 toward the planned renovations to apartments, the community facility and to upgrade security cameras. The last time Bear Creek had renovations was in 2017, according to the CHA website.

The complex of 76 residences originally was built in 1973, featuring one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom units. There also is a community facility, laundry facilities, and offices for resident services staff, property management and maintenance.

"(Renovation) efforts are critical to supporting the long-term capital needs and sustainability of the development," CHA said in a news release.

A presentation of the award was held July 8 at the CHA offices at 201 Switzler St. by Boone County Presiding Commissioner Kip Kendrick.
