Take your hero or alter ego public next week when Columbia Public Library hosts Cosplay Con.

The event, to be held from 6-8 p.m. Monday, offers participants a chance to dress as their "favorite character, be it superhero, anime, sci-fi or your own original persona," according to a library event description. The dress-up fun is open to patrons of all ages.

The evening will start with registration and photographs, followed by a "runway show" at 6:30. Prizes will go to "the best costumes and characterization" by age group.

Other promising upcoming events at the library include:

    • Silent Book Club 6 p.m. July 30
    • Giant Dinosaur and Fossil Dig Adventure 10 a.m., 2 p.m., 6 p.m. Aug. 1
