Mizzou safety Phillip Roche was arrested in Columbia on Monday night for failure to appear in court, according to Boone County arrest logs.

According to the logs, Roche, 19, was released on his own recognizance, which means he was not required to post bail. The logs state he was booked shortly before midnight on Monday evening.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports he was issued three separate warrants for failing to appear in court. The Post-Dispatch also reports Roche, who was present at Missouri’s practice on Tuesday morning, “has failed to appear for at least eight court hearings across five outstanding cases, according to court records, prompting prosecutors to request the warrants.”

“The program is handling the situation through normal university processes,” program spokesperson Dave Matter told the Post-Dispatch in a text message.

Roche reportedly has been charged with three misdemeanors for exceeding the speed limit by more than 20 miles per hour, including for allegedly driving 107 mph along a stretch of I-70 where the speed limit is 60 mph, the Post-Dispatch reports. Roche was also cited for driving 115 mph along U.S. 63 in Columbia, 45 mph over the posted speed limit of 70, according to a probable cause statement.

Roche, a sophomore with three years of eligibility remaining entering 2024, played in 11 games last season, primarily on special teams. He was credited with nine tackles, one sack and one tackle-for-loss.

A class-of-2023 recruit, Roche was ranked No. 1,150 nationally according to the 247Sports Composite, which also listed him as the No. 105 safety. He was a three-star recruit with reported offers to Power Five schools including Cincinnati, Boston College, Indiana, Nebraska and Purdue, according to 247Sports.
