Influential indie-rockers Pavement soon will, in their way, rock Venice, Italy — and a University of Missouri faculty member helped the band get there.

Filmmaker Alex Ross Perry's "Pavements" will play the upcoming Venice Film Festival, which runs Aug. 28-Sept. 7. The film was co-produced and edited by Robert Greene, who is filmmaker-in-chief at MU's Jonathan B. Murray Center for Documentary Journalism.

Greene is a well-regarded director and a favorite of Columbia's own True/False Film Fest, with films ranging from "Procession" and "Bisbee '17" to "Kate Plays Christine" and "Actress." He is a frequent collaborator of Perry's, editing or co-editing four of his films, including "Listen Up Philip" and "Her Smell."

IMDB describes "Pavements" as uniting "scripts with documentary images of the band and a musical mise-en-scene composed of songs from their discography." The band is joined in the film by actors Joe Keery, Jason Schwartzman, Tim Heidecker, Zoe Lister-Jones and more, according to a Pitchfork report .

Pavement broke through in 1992 with "Slanted and Enchanted," the first of five albums released in the '90s by the California band. Pavement broke up by the end of that decade but has reunited intermittently.

"Their fractured songwriting and defiant low fidelity made them the most influential, distinctive band in the alternative underground of the '90s," their AllMusic entry , crafted by Heather Phares, notes.
