    Columbia firm takes over accounting practice in Sumter

    A Columbia accounting firm now owns and operates a third location in South Carolina, at 5 Broad St. in Sumter.

    The Hobbs Group PA said in a news release that the office will help the firm provide professional accounting audit and tax services to clients previously served by the late Wilson MacEwen, who operated his firm from the location.

    The Hobbs Group has offices at 1704 Laurel Street in Columbia and 125 W. Stone Ave. in Greenville. In addition, the firm has a financial advisory arm, Hobbs Group Advisors, at 1727 Laurel Street, Columbia.

    The firm has a team of more than 65 professionals that specialize in a range of services, including audit and attestation, business valuation, client accounting services, consulting and business advisory, litigation support, tax and more throughout the Southeast.

    Mark T. Hobbs founded the firm in 1986 and will continue to serve as managing shareholder.

    The Hobbs Group PA was recently named one of the Top 500 firms in the country by Inside Public Accounting for the second year in a row, the release said. The Hobbs Group is a member of Private Companies Practice Section of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Better Business Bureau, Governmental Audit Quality Center, Employee Benefit Plan Quality Center, South Carolina Association of CPAs and CPAmerica.
