    Officials: Escaped Carter County inmate believed to be in South Carolina

    COLUMBIA, S.C. (WJHL) — An escaped inmate from Carter County is believed to be in South Carolina after being spotted in Greenville County.

    According to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), Billy Fletcher, 43, was last seen June 24 leaving a Walmart on White Horse Road in Greenville County, South Carolina.

    On June 20, Fletcher was signed to an inmate work detail at the Carter County Detention Center when he walked away from the area, police reported.

    Fletcher is a white male, approximately 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighs around 230 pounds. He has multiple tattoos on each arm.

    He was booked into the Carter County Detention Center in August 2023 and was serving a three-year sentence for a probation violation.

    SLED asks the public to not approach Fletcher and to call 911 in an emergency.

    The Carter County Sheriff’s Office is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of Fletcher.
