The City of Columbia announces the launch of Columbia 101, an innovative program designed to engage residents with local government and community services. Participants in Columbia 101 will have the unique opportunity to interact closely with city officials and staff, gaining firsthand knowledge of how municipal services are delivered and learning about avenues for community involvement and advocacy.

This consecutive two-day program will be open to all City of Columbia and Maury County residents and offered twice per year, with the official kick-off occurring on September 17th and September 18th. Participants can expect to begin each day at City Hall before learning more about all 12 city departments and touring select city facilities, such as the Fire & Rescue and Public Works Departments.

City Mayor Chaz Molder stated, “Columbia 101 represents a significant step towards fostering a more informed and engaged community. By implementing this program, we aim to empower residents with the knowledge and tools that are necessary to actively participate in shaping the future of our city.”

Applications for Columbia 101 are available now and will close on Friday, August 9th at 4:00 pm. There will be a $25 program fee for all accepted applicants that will go towards program costs, including food and transportation.

“Establishing a local government citizens academy has been one of City Council’s strategic planning goals. It is a great way for our citizens to learn more about their city government,” stated City Manager Tony Massey.

The primary objective of Columbia 101 is to educate and engage residents in the intricacies of municipal governance, familiarizing them with city services and enabling them to become active contributors to community initiatives.

Columbia 101 applications are available here or at the reception desk on the 3rd floor of City Hall. Follow the City of Columbia on Facebook and Instagram at “CityofColumbiaTN.” For questions, please contact Lexi Dearborn at [email protected].
