COLUMBUS, Ga. ( WRBL ) — When the Columbus Museum reopened in May as “COMU,” community was the focal point of its rebrand. Now, the museum has secured more than $35,000 in funds to help with its mission.

The money comes from the Bridge Grant and an Arts Education Grant through the Georgia Council for the Arts.

“At this time, when we’re back in full force, to have that additional support and funding to just continue to increase what we’re able to provide is really incredible,” said COMU Director of Marketing and Public Relations Kristen Hudson.

According to Hudson, the museum applies for these grants each year, receiving various amounts in return. The more than $35,000 received for the 2025 fiscal year is on par for what the museum has previously received, but far from insignificant, Hudson said.

The museum plans to use money from the grant for museum operations and educational programming for pre-k through twelfth graders.

Hudson said the funds will be helpful, especially as the museum proves to be a popular stop within the community since its reopening. Hudson estimated museum traffic has been, on average, about 400 guests per day when it is open.

“We’re so thankful to the community for their support,” Hudson said. She added, “just to have the space back open, seeing people coming in, smiling, interacting, enjoying themselves, means so much.”

In line with its commitment to community, COMU remains free to visit during open hours on Monday through Sunday.
