COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — Muggy, cloudy and a few areas of patchy fog across the region this morning, but that won’t last long as we are expecting another warm afternoon with just a few stray thunderstorms.

Temperatures will still climb into the low 90s this afternoon and could make a run for the mid 90s with more sunshine in the forecast. Heat index values will likely climb to the upper 90s and lower 100s.

Stalled front has finally washed out as a stronger cold front drops in the north and northeast this week. That front helps ramp up some weekend rain chances as the front approaches. By Saturday afternoon shower and thunderstorm coverage becomes more isolated while Sunday sees the return of scattered thunderstorms. Temperatures will hover around the 90 degree mark for highs this weekend.

Next week sees high pressure build into the region, but we start the week off with a higher chance of rain that bleeds over from the weekend before becoming more stray. Temperatures tick up slightly as our thunderstorm chance returns more seasonal of the pop-up variety.

Tropics remain quiet as dust from the Saharan Air Layer is keeping tropical activity suppressed at least through the next seven days.
