Scattered Showers and Storms Wednesday
COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - Temperatures this afternoon were able to warm into the upper-80s to low-90s, thanks to a bit more sunshine peaking through and rain holding off until a little later in the day. This evening and tonight expect a chance of showers and storms to linger into the early nighttime hours before giving way to mostly cloudy skies. Out the door Wednesday expect temperatures in the low- to mid-70s, before warming to right near 90 degrees in the afternoon. Don’t forget to pack the umbrella as scattered showers and storms are expected to make a return in the afternoon and evening. Going through the rest of the work week rain coverage will begin to taper off, with a more summer-like pattern returning this weekend and early next week with rain coverage sitting between 20-30%. As for those temperatures they will return to near seasonable in the low- to mid-90s this weekend into early next weekend. We will continue to watch the rain coverage this weekend, as this is one of the last few weekends before the new school year starts.
DEVELOPING: Major power outage reported in north Columbus
Columbus police are working multiple traffic light outages along north Veterans Parkway. Georgia Power says a power outage is affected over 2,000 customers in the areas of Moon Road to Airport Thruway to Interstate 185 to Veterans Parkway and areas of JR Allen Parkway to Veterans Parkway to Whitesville Road to Smith Road.

Upcoming Columbus council meetings shift venue amid upgrades
COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - The Columbus Consolidated Government has announced temporary adjustments for two upcoming city council meetings due to scheduled upgrades. City officials said the meetings set for Tuesday, July 23 at 5:30 p.m. and Tuesday, July 30 at 9 a.m. will now take place at the Muscogee County School District Public Education Center. Both meetings will be held in the board meeting room.

A rarely witnessed congregation of American alligators was recorded in southeast Georgia’s Okefenokee Swamp, and researchers are trying to figure out why it happened.
