Columbus has long been the scene for excellent barbecue located seemingly on every block. Now, a new barbecue restaurant has set up shop in a familiar location for enthusiasts in the city.

Dexter’s Southern BBQ is located at 547 Veterans Parkway in the old Chester’s BBQ location, and they aren’t playing when it comes to bringing smoky and delicious barbecue to the dinner table.

On a day where I actually had time to eat lunch, our photographer and I decided to try out the new restaurant which was receiving some buzz on Facebook.

As we walked in the smell of the smoky barbecue hit me like Derrick Henry running through an Auburn linebacker back in the day. In short, it smelled glorious.

The menu included options such as barbecue pork, barbecue chicken, ribs, barbecue sandwich, and sausage with green peppers and onions.

The options for sides were potato salad, baked beans, macaroni and cheese, and homemade slaw.

I decided to go with the rib tray with potato salad. I wasn’t disappointed.

The ribs were smoky and moist with a wonderful seasoning blend that gave it a zesty kick. The bbq sauce had a sweet, peppery and smoky taste to it that paired well with the ribs, and I soaked up every last drop with the white bread included in the tray.

The potato salad was definitely a treat as well. The tanginess of the creamy potato salad hit me at first bite, but as I chewed I noticed hints of sweetness as well. I’d definitely recommend bringing it to a tailgate.

Just please don’t be the person that leaves it out all day on the table and doesn’t put it back in the cooler and lets it go bad. It would be a waste of good potato salad.

I also took a bite of our photographer’s mac and cheese and I’d definitely suggest it. This isn’t your box mix Kraft mac and cheese. You can tell some actual love was put into these cheesy noodles.

With football coming back soon, I’d definitely put Dexter’s on my list of places to go to get some barbecue on game day.
