A Columbus fast food restaurant requires a follow-up inspection after receiving a low score on its August health inspection.

The Wendy’s at 3639 Victory Dr. earned a 75 on its Aug. 7 inspection . Restaurants that receive lower than a B are required to have a follow-up visit from health inspectors.

Violations listed on the report include:

• An employee drinking from a cup without a lid in the food prep area.

• Hand washing sink lacking hand drying provisions in the main kitchen.

• Time and temperature control for safety food items left on a preptop reading above temperature limit.

• Food items in a cooler without correct labeling.

• Multiple reach-in coolers without thermometers, so the inspector couldn’t confirm whether they were working correctly.

• Debris was found in the bottom of reach-in coolers, and debris buildup found behind the fryers.

• Ceiling tile was found on the floor along with a large puddle in the dining area. The person in charge said they’d had a leak because of the air conditioner on the roof and maintenance was coming to fix it.

• Dead insects were found on the outer lip of the bulk ice machine.

The restaurant was told to correct the leak within 30 days, according to the inspection report.

Along with that Wendy’s, inspectors visited 98 Muscogee County restaurants, hotels, lounges and other food establishments during August.

Of the establishments inspected, 62 earned perfect scores with 30 others also receiving “A’s”. Six establishments earned a “B”.

How the grading works

Restaurants receive one of four letter grades that are assigned based on how many points are deducted from 100:

• “A” grades mean food safety is excellent is achieved by receiving 90-100 points

• “B’s” are issued when there is “satisfactory compliance” with the business receiving 80-89 points

• “C’s” mean there is marginal compliance and applied to scores between 70-79

• “U’s” represent unsatisfactory compliance and are applied to scores of 69 or less.

Establishments that receive a “C” or “U” food safety grade will have at least one additional routine inspection added in a twelve month period, according to state law .
