During its 153-year history, the Springer Opera House has offered various tickets prices, plans and packages to attract folks to the State Theater of Georgia in downtown Columbus — but never deals like these.

The Springer has announced two new discount ticket programs designed to make their shows more affordable, allowing patrons to save between 40% and 80% off the regular adult price, which ranges from $45-$53:

The Springer Opera House’s production of “Jersey Boys” runs from September 19-29, 2024 on the Springer’s mainstage. The production captures the rise to fame of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons and includes hit songs like “Sherry,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” “Walk Like a Man,” and “Working My Way Back to You.” 09/18/2024 Mike Haskey/mhaskey@ledger-enquirer.com

“We believe that theatre has the power to bring people together and create lasting connections,” Springer CEO and executive producer Danielle Patterson-Varner said in a news release. “These new programs are designed to remove financial barriers and welcome a broader audience into our theatre family. We’re excited to see the positive impact this will have on our community.”

What is the Springer’s Gateway Program?

The Springer’s Gateway Program provides substantial discounts on tickets to the first 40 low-income households that qualify and enroll.

“Our community has one of the highest poverty rates in the state, which prevents people from participating in the arts,” Springer marketing and audience development director Allie Kent said in the news release. “Our goal with this specific program is to create a supportive environment where everyone who desires can enjoy live theatre without impacting their household budget.”

Eligible patrons who are at least 18 years old and receive financial assistance from at least one federal program may buy as many as four tickets to see selected shows for $7.

What is the Springer’s Curtain Call Rush Ticket Program?

The Curtain Call Rush Ticket Program is a lottery that allows patrons to win an opportunity to buy tickets for selected shows at a discounted rate: $25 for Main Stage productions and $20 for Studio II Series productions.

Tickets in this program are subject to availability. They won’t be offered for Springer special events or as part of subscriber perks.

“Curtain Call is perfect for those who love the spontaneity of last-minute plans or for anyone looking to enjoy high-quality theatre at an affordable price,” Patterson-Varner said. “We aim to make it easier for more people to enjoy our productions, even on a tight budget.”

Kent added, “Curtain Call is almost tailor-made for a generation used to doing things on their phones and online. The entire process is completely done online, except picking up tickets at the box office.”

What shows can you see through these programs?

Tickets in these discount programs might not be available for every production., Springer marketing and communications manager Jhai James told the Ledger-Enquirer in an emailed interview.

“The box office manager will coordinate with the marketing director and CEO to determine feasibility for releasing discounted tickets,” she said.

Good program to offer opportunities for all to experience the shows. They do need more diversity with the shows they present to attract a wider audience.
