Man hospitalized, later dies after an overnight stabbing in Columbus, police say

A man was fatally stabbed in Columbus Tuesday night, and local police say they’ve arrested a suspect in the case.

The Columbus Police Department said it got a call about a stabbing just after 11:45 p.m. Tuesday in the area of South Lumpkin Road and Knox Street. Officers arrived and found an SUV stopped in the road and a man suffering from a stab wound.

The victim, later identified as 33-year-old Cartez Shanklin, was treated by emergency medical services and taken to Piedmont Columbus Regional, police said. He died from his injuries at the hospital just before 12:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Suspect arrested in Columbus stabbing

Columbus police said Jerry Jermaine Miller, 39, was identified as the suspect in the stabbing and was arrested Wednesday morning. Miller was charged with murder and possessing a knife during the commission of a crime, police said.
