Team Behind Midway Files Permit for New Concept Slated to Open Next Year

A permit filed with the city shows a new project is in the works by the team behind Ethyl & Tank and Midway on High, tentatively called The Block, which will be located near North High Street. The permit filing lists the address as 1728 N High St, which is the address for Midway, but per details in the filing, the new structure will be situated on what is currently used as outdoor dining space located between Ethyl & Tank and Midway on High.

Per language in the permit filing, the new structure will entail a 4,474 gross square foot addition, with a 2,321 gross square foot occupied roof deck, with the total projected cost of the construction valued at $1.2 million.

What Now Columbus spoke with Bryan Myers, Director of Operations for A&R Creative Group, the holding company behind college bar Midway on High, restaurant and bar Ethyl & Tank and Fourth Street Taproom. Myers shared that the goal is to break ground on the site by the end of this year, and, if all goes according to plan, have the new concept open by next summer.

As far as what guests can expect at the new space, Myers said the concept, like the name The Block, isn’t “fully hashed out yet.” What is known is that the new space will be two stories and will be separate concepts with the upstairs possibly offering a space for DJ performances complete with the option for a customized lighting show, while the downstairs will be a separate concept, with a more “laid back vibe.”

Myers also said that pending city approvals, all three structures will be connected, with the hope that it will help with existing issues at Midway where wait times to get into the bar can sometimes be excessive.
