What had the potential to be a big week for professional golf came to a sudden halt on Wednesday. PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan released a statement tempering expectations surrounding a deal with LIV Golf as rumors circulated early this week indicating a pact could be on the horizon.

After Bryson DeChambeau's win at Pinehurst and PGA meetings with PIF in New York City, it seemed the two sides were nearing an agreement. But Monahan quickly shut down such speculation.

    Here We Go Again...

Once again, the leader of the PGA Tour succeeded in giving golf fans nothing of substance regarding the negotiations. Clearly, the two sides have been heavily engaged in discussions over the past few weeks. However, there have been no indicators of true progress resulting from those meetings.

It's now been a year since the so-called "framework agreement" between the sides, yet there's nothing substantial to show for recent negotiations. It "only" took 12 months to get here.

I, like many golf fans, don't believe Jay Monahan is the right person to get this deal to the finish line. Furthermore, I don't believe he should be the one to lead the PGA Tour into the future once the deal is done.

The PGA Tour has endured numerous leadership changes to get this deal moving along, and I think the biggest one still needs to be made. Monahan doesn't seem very present at times, and when we hear from him, little to no information comes to light.

The game of golf would benefit from getting out of the shadows and keeping its supporters in the loop. We need golf unification, as Pinehurst proved.
