Central Ohio got a bit of a respite from high temperatures this week, but we'll be climbing back into the high 80s Friday.

    But that's outside.

During last week's sweltering heat wave that pushed air conditioning to the forefront of many people's minds, we asked readers what temperature they set their thermostats to.

The results are in, and the people's thermostat temperature is clear: 70 degrees or lower.

Nearly 18% of respondents said they keep their homes at or below 70 degrees. Second place went to 72 degrees, with 14.63% of the vote.

And taking the copper medal is 74 degrees with 14.17% of respondents.

Columbus' least common thermostat setting is 80 degrees or above, with 1.71% of respondents. The same percentage of voters also said they set their air conditioning to other temperatures not included in the poll.

The cooling habits of central Ohioans vary greatly from Arizonans. A similar Arizona Republic poll found a quarter of the state's residents prefer to keep their thermostats set at 78 degrees, while only 7.09% of Columbus residents prefer that temperature.
