COLUMBUS, Ohio ( WCMH ) — An overnight stop at a gas station ended with a bullet in one man’s leg. Now, Columbus police and the US Marshals Service are tracking the suspect in this case.

A shootout at approximately 3 a.m. on March 17 of this year, at a Shell gas station near Alum Creek Drive.

    Aaron Peters

In this week’s Warrant Watch , police said Aaron Peters, 31, is the person responsible; he’s wanted on a felonious assault charge.

“This is just another example of senseless gunfire,” U.S. Marshal with the Southern District of Ohio Michael Black said. “Anytime individuals are out there using firearms, there’s a good chance some innocent victim could get shot and killed.”

Court records show the weapon used was a semi-automatic handgun and while Peters exchanged gunfire with two unknown men, he shot the victim in the leg.

Investigators said surveillance video from inside the store helped them identify Peters as the suspect. His last known address is on the 1400 block of Burstock Road on Columbus’ southeast side.

“We want individuals to know we are looking for them,” Black said. “If they’re out there committing crimes with weapons, we’re going to make it a priority, with our law enforcement partners, to apprehend them and get them off the streets.”

Anyone with details about Peters’ whereabouts is urged to contact the U.S. Marshals Service Tip Line at (614) 469-5540 or visit usmarshals.gov . You can also call Crime Stoppers at (614) 461-8477.
