Former Ohio State Buckeyes football star's son earns scholarship offer and he isn't even in high school yet

College football recruiting has gotten rather ridiculous in recent years. Whether we're talking about NIL, the Transfer Portal, or far-too-early recruitments and scholarship offers, the landscape has brought quite a few interesting stories. This weekend was no exception.

Former Ohio State Buckeyes great, Braxton Miller, announced that his son Landon has been officially offered a football scholarship from Florida Atlantic. Yes, the same Braxton Miller who just wrapped up his Ohio State football career less than a decade ago now has a son old enough to be landing scholarship offers! That may seem surprising, but what's most surprising is that Miller's son isn't even in high school yet. In fact, Landon won't be eligible for college (unless he reclassifies) until 2031, but that didn't stop Tom Herman and FAU from offering him anyway.

If you've been following college football recruiting for some time you may know that this isn't the first time a middle school kid has received a scholarship offer, but it's certainly a rarity. So, why offer Braxton Miller's son? Besides the obvious--in that Braxton was an absurdly talented athlete at Ohio State himself--in this case it seems that relational ties are very much likely the answer.

FAU head coach Tom Herman was the Ohio State offensive coordinator for three of Braxton Miller's seasons with the Buckeyes and built a rather strong relationship with the star playmaker while there. Now Herman will hope to one day work with his son Landon.

Herman isn't the first FAU coach to make headlines with early scholarship offers either. Lane Kiffin offered a couple very young football recruits in his brief tenure with the Owls back in 2017, including a joke offer that made headlines as well.

A proud father of a massive 22-pound 6-month-old baby tweeted at Kiffin back in 2017, and he promptly tweeted "Offer @espn", jokingly extending a scholarship.

As Braxton Miller's son continues to develop as a football star he'll almost assuredly warrant more scholarship offers in the future. But for now, it's just cool to see that Buckeyes relationships that formed over a decade ago are still leading to new opportunities today.
