Columbus Metropolitan Library holding summer reading events

COLUMBUS, Ohio ( WCMH ) – While school is still out for the summer, the Columbus Metropolitan Library is still encouraging students to continue reading with fun events.

The library system’s Summer Reading Challenge is happening now with several events featuring music, dancing, singing, education and more. Below is a list of activities students can enjoy through July 27.

614 MusicWorks: Bucket Drumline
July 23 from 3 to 4 p.m. at Franklinton Branch
Learn chants and cadences of drumming and practice on buckets. Event ends with a grand finale performance. For children ages 7-11.

BHB: The Origins of Hip-Hop
July 24 from 3 to 4 p.m. at Martin Luther King Branch
Explore the history of hip-hop and its positive contributions to the community. For students ages 12-17.

Ohio Canid Center: Wolves – Fact vs. Myth
July 25 from 2 to 3 p.m. at Karl Road Branch
See an ambassador wolf and learn about their family life, habitat and diet, as well as several myths about these beautiful creatures. All ages are welcome.

BabaaRitah: Singing, Dancing & Drumming
July 26 from 10 to 11 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Hilliard Branch
Celebrate African history, unity and culture in this call-and-response program. Participate in song, dance and drumming from West Africa. Ages 7-11.

Ohio Nature Education: Bats & Their Predators
July 27 from 12 to 1 p.m.at Main Library
Let’s test your bat IQ and gauge your beliefs on one of the most misunderstood animals. Live bats and a predator or two included. Ages 7-11.
