Ryan Day’s Unusual Chip Kelly Admission Sparks Incredible Fan Reactions

Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes are set to enter the 2024 college football season with a handful of new faces on offense.

Kyle McCord, the Buckeyes' starting quarterback last season, hit the transfer portal in December. And while Ohio State has yet to name a starter for the coming season, Day and new offensive coordinator Chip Kelly have several intriguing options, including Kansas State transfer Will Howard and junior signal caller Devin Brown.

With Big Ten Media Days starting on Tuesday, Day didn't go into much detail about the Buckeyes' QB competition, however, he did have this to say about Ohio State's new offensive mind.

"I trust Chip (Kelly) with my life," Day said, via Brett McMurphy of Action Network.

In a move that stunned fans across the country, Kelly left his post as the head football coach at UCLA this past offseason in order to take the OC job at Ohio State.

He spent six years with the Bruins from 2018 to 2023.

"Chip is here for a reason, to run the offense,” Day said this afternoon, per OregonLive.com .

Day may be excited about the prospects of Kelly serving as the Buckeyes' play-caller, however, that's not stopping fans from sharing jokes about his unusually high praise of the longtime college football coach.

Only time will tell if Day and the Buckeyes made the right call in bringing Kelly on board to run the offense.

Ohio State will open the season at home vs. Akron on Aug. 31.
