Columbus bar loses Best New US Cocktail Bar title

Cobra , the Brewery District bar and restaurant that opened last October with a laid-back vibe and late-night bites, lost out to a New York nightspot Thursday for the title of Best New U.S. Cocktail Bar.

Tales of the Cocktail Foundation , an international group whose annual awards have been called the Oscars of the beverage industry, gave the 2024 recognition to Superbueno , an East Village bar that already has been feted by Food & Wine, Esquire and Bon Appétit magazines and others.

In April, Cobra was named as one of the foundation's best new bars in the Midwest and was chosen as a finalist in June for the national award . It was the only Ohio business and one of just two in the Midwest included in any nonregional category.

The bar and restaurant, owned by four friends who met when they all worked at Watershed Kitchen + Bar, serves Asian-inspired food and cocktails. Drinks include flavors such as yuzu, mango, pandan, ginger or curry leaves, while even coney dogs and French fries get twists such as five-spice Cincinnati chili sauce or lemon-shiso aioli.

Cobra was named one of the central Ohio's best new restaurants of 2024 by Columbus Monthly.
