This summer marks a huge milestone in the journey of a historic Columbus business. The 100th anniversary of James Alexander Argo and Adolf Lehne partnering to open Columbus' Argo & Lehne Jewelers in 1924 is Aug. 2.
To commemorate its long history, Argo & Lehne Jewelers is host to a daylong community festival Aug. 10, featuring a garden tea party, "The Future is Bright" themed fashion show, games, crafts, prizes, 25% off in-stock merchandise and purchasing access to art-deco period jewelry.
The first 100 customers will also receive a complimentary cupcake containing a special surprise, from gift cards to local retailers and complimentary services to extra in-store discounts.
This centennial celebration will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the store's location, 3100 Tremont Road in Upper Arlington. The event is free and open to all, though the garden tea party and fashion show require reservations in advance, which can be made online at argolehne.com/blog/100th-anniversary-celebration .
Selling jewelry for 100 years is no small task. Even as Argo & Lehne Jewelers stayed within the Argo family for three generations, some pride is held on the store's adaptability.

"I think that you have to evolve with the times," said Robert Argo, owner of Argo & Lehne Jewelers. "And in each generation, if it's the same jewelry store as the previous one, it's going to go out of business because you have to adapt to what your customer is looking for and what kind of service they need. This celebration is about the future, not the past. And it's for kids and families."
The goal is to rejoice alongside the community they built their livelihoods within and give back to the people who supported them for a century.
