One former standout of the Ohio State Buckeyes is calling it an NFL career. After being drafted in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft, this player played for two different teams over the three seasons that he was active.

Gareon Conley was a standout player at Ohio State from 2014-16 and a key part of some pretty good Buckeyes teams. Before being drafted by the Las Vegas Raiders organization when they were in Oakland. After being notified that he was being cut by the Dallas Cowboys , Conley decided that he would be hanging up the cleats.

It was a standout season for Conley in the UFL with the D.C. Defenders that got him on the radar of the Cowboys to be signed. But after a few days of training camp, the Cowboys decided to use the end of the roster spot for other purposes. It appears that Conley was giving it one more shot to crack an NFL roster since he has not played in a game since 2019 with the Houston Texans, where he ended up after Week 6 that season from the Raiders.

Conley started 26 of the 31 games he played in from 2017-19 and had four career interceptions and 29 passes defended. The former Buckeye’s best season was in 2018 when he had three interceptions and a touchdown in 14 starts with the Raiders.

At Ohio State, Conley played in 41 games over three seasons and had his most productive season as a junior. In 2016, Conley recorded four of his six career interceptions and added 26 tackles. The 6-foot, 195-pound Conley was a four-star player out of Massillon, Ohio.

Conley missed the entire 2020 season with an ankle injury and had not been signed until the Cowboys recently picked him up. It would have been an uphill battle for Conley to make the Cowboys roster with multiple players competing for limited roster spots . At 29 years old, Conley is credited with three seasons played in his NFL career.
