COLUMBUS, Ohio ( WCMH ) – Chicks are hatching in a place you wouldn’t expect.

On Wednesday, the Columbus Metropolitan Library welcomed a new batch of chicks. Visitors were able to see the birds pecking out of their eggs in an incubator as part of the library’s chick-hatching program.

Probably most exciting of all, attendees were allowed to pet them, too.

The eggs were delivered by a farm about three weeks ago.

The chicks will stay at the main library downtown for the next six to seven day, and children who visited loved to suggest names.

The chicks will grow rapidly, getting their feathers in about eight to ten weeks, and be fully grown in just six months.
