COLUMBUS, Ohio ( WCMH ) — Rock band Aerosmith announced Friday it is retiring from touring and is canceling all remaining shows of its farewell tour, including one in Columbus.

The band previously had to reschedule shows after lead vocalist Steven Tyler suffered vocal cord damage , bumping the show scheduled for Jan. 23, 2024 to Jan. 13, 2025. Now, the band has announced neither date will happen.

The decision to cut the “Peace Out” farewell tour short came from a realization that Tyler will never fully recover from the damage, the band said.

“He has spent months tirelessly working on getting his voice to where it was before his injury,” the band wrote. “We’ve seen him struggling despite having the best medical team by his side. Sadly, it is clear, that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible. We have made a heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary, decision — as a band of brothers — to retire from the touring stage.”

The band said they were grateful for its fans, crew and supporters throughout its career.

“A final thank you to you — the best fans on planet Earth,” they wrote. “Play our music loud, now and always. Dream On. You’ve made our dreams come true.”

Fans who purchased tickets through Ticketmaster will be automatically refunded. Anyone who used a third-party site should contact their distributor for more details.
