Good morning, Ohio State fans, and welcome to the Scarlet Sunrise. Football will always be our focus, but every day we’ll cover news, notes and analysis from across Buckeyes sports. Join us each morning to get caught up on everything you missed in the world of Buckeyes football, recruiting, basketball and more in Scarlet Sunrise.

Buckeyes earn day off after first four days of camp

Ohio State just had four straight days of practice in the early-August heat. Two of those days, Saturday and Sunday, featured shoulder pads for the first time this camp season.

Now the Buckeyes are getting a much-needed and well-deserved day off before hitting the practice field for five straight days of practice — Tuesday through Saturday this week. This is, of course, all leading up to the regular season that will kick off inside the Horseshoe on Aug. 31 when the Buckeyes face Akron.

Ohio State still has plenty to sort through as it makes the push for a national title this fall. The Buckeyes have questions along the offensive line, at quarterback and at a couple of critical depth spots on the defense. A depth chart will begin sorting itself out in the coming days, especially as the Buckeyes settle into camp.

For now, they’ll take their day off to rest and recover — and check into the team hotel, where they’ll spend the next couple of weeks isolated as camp truly becomes a grind.

Lettermen Row will be on-site Monday evening for camp check-in, an annual tradition this time of year.

Observations from Buckeyes fourth day of training camp

Ohio State finished its four-day stretch of practices on Sunday with the fourth practice of preseason camp. Sunday was another long but productive session on the outdoor fields of the Woody Hayes Athletic Center.

The quarterbacks were sporadic, while the offensive line truly shined in individual drills against defensive linemen. The defense, meanwhile, continues to wreck havoc and make life hard for this ultra-talented offense.

Lettermen Row was on site and filled out a notebook of observations. Check it out here.

The first week of training camp is in the books at Ohio State. The Buckeyes will check into the Hyatt Place in Grandview on Monday and carry on into the next phase of preseason.

But, first, Lettermen Row ‘s Andy Backstrom is recapping five things we learned from watching the first four practices of camp.

Without further ado, let’s get into it.

Carmen’s Crew win The Basketball Tournament

The Ohio State hoops alumni team won the annual The Basketball Tournament on Sunday, defeating Forever Coogs, the Houston alumni team 69-65.

Jared Sullinger led Carmen’s Crew with 18 points and eight rebounds. Kaleb Wesson had 15, and his brother Andre had 13 to help the team of former Buckeyes and other friends win the $1 million prize for the second time in the tournament’s history. This team previously won the tournament in 2019.

    Counting Down
