Greg McElroy Reveals Win Total Needed for Ohio State to Guarantee College Football Playoff

Ryan Day's most important season is just weeks away, and with an expanded College Football Playoff, it's CFP or bust for the Buckeyes in 2024.

So, how do they get there? Well, expectations are a breezy path following an 11-1 or 12-0 regular season. But even if OSU hits some road bumps, ESPN's Greg McElroy believes the Buckeyes are set up to safely make the field... so long as they hit a certain win threshold.

McElroy declared Monday on his YouTube show, Always College Football :

"I think Ohio State at 10-2 is definitely in, no doubt about it."

He believes that trips to Oregon and Penn State are even more daunting than the rivalry matchup to end the year against the reigning champs. Plus, other formidable foes like Iowa are waiting around.

With such a strong slate of top-end games this season, McElroy believes Ohio State will get more than enough quality of wins so long as they hit double digits in the regular season — even if they drop those road games.

"You still have a win against Iowa you still have a win against Michigan — even if you lost your two toughest games, Oregon and Penn State both on the road — you still have two wins against teams that are likely in the top 25."

With very strong losses and still some strong wins, most 10-2 squads probably won't be able to match Ohio State's resume.
