Visitors evacuate Stehekin after Level 2 notice
Chelan County Emergency Management said about 130 people evacuated Stehekin on Thursday after the area went to Level 2 yesterday morning. All tourism visitors were required to leave the area beginning at 8 a.m. and evacuees were ferried out of Stehekin in the afternoon. NCWLIFE spoke with Cameron Hanhart, Cooper Jay and Jacob Roko, three Eastlake High School students from Sammamish who had been camping in Stehekin since Tuesday. Current Situation: The Easy Fire is burning through dense timber, dead trees, and ground vegetation on very steep terrain. Activity near State Route 20 has moderated, but there is still fire within the north and south sides of the perimeter.
