LSB Midseason Community Prospect Rankings — #13
Congratulations to Anthony Gutierrez, who won the voting to be named the #12 prospect in the LSB Midseason Community Prospect Rankings with a little over 20% of the vote. Because there has been a history of vote-spamming shenanigans in the rankings, I used Google Forms for the last couple of community rankings, and it worked out well, so we will use it again. You will need to include your LSB user name when you vote. If you don’t have an LSB user name, you need to use some sort of identifier. While this won’t eliminate the possibility of vote spamming, it will make it harder.
Dallas Office of Arts and Culture Seeks Volunteer Panelists to Influence Arts Funding
In a move that's part community engagement, and part quality assurance, the Office of Arts and Culture (OAC) is on the hunt for volunteer panelists to help steer the direction of arts funding. This is not your typical rubber-stamp committee. These volunteers will have a significant say in which artists and organizations get a slice of the taxpayer pie. And we are not just talking pocket change; panel reviews impact a hefty 70 points out of a possible 100 that an applicant can score.
'Young Man's Dinner' at Dallas restaurant serves as mentorship program
DALLAS — If there is a recipe for success, Dallas restaurateur Bob Sambol hopes it is one he can share again and again with Dallas youth who might otherwise think their own prosperity is as out of reach as a proverbial silver spoon. That's why, along with Mark Jones...
The KXT Local Show: Alex Irish, Rafa, Sheprador
Thursday was a surprisingly tame summer day in North Texas. (Yes, it was still 92 degrees; yes, you have to skew for Texas standards.) But we made up for it with a lot of new heat this week. Dallas indie-folk/Americana duo The Half Guided Hearts is back with its first...
Homicide at 2300 Fernwood Avenue
On July 18, 2024, at about 2:35 PM, Dallas police responded to a call for service regarding a vehicle parked in the 2300 block of Fernwood Avenue. The preliminary investigation determined when officers arrived, they found the male victim, dead, inside the vehicle. Further investigation determined the victim was shot...
156/Silence Reveal "Better Written Villain" [Single Review]
The Pittsburgh-based band 156/Silence is at it again with their new single: "Better Written Villain". This new release might arguably be the best thing 156/Silence has ever released. Following similar vibes to "Unreasonable Doubt", which was released in April of this year, and sounding similar to Varials (hailing from Philadelphia so it must be something in that Pennsylvania water), the track is a certified banger from start to finish.
Singer Sudie Returns to Dallas To Debut Her First Full-Length Album
LadyLove, the popular bar in Bishop Arts (it made our Top 100 Bars list on Wednesday) was packed for the debut of former Dallasite Sudie’s new album, Doldrum’s End. The bar was packed, and it was clear who the star of the night was. This album was recorded...
Dallas-Fort Worth Warned of Impending Storms and Poor Air Quality, Residents Urged to Take Precautions
Residents of Dallas and the Fort Worth area are being cautioned of potential hazardous weather and air quality conditions over the coming days. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has triggered an Ozone Action Day for today, due to expected high levels of ozone air pollution. The public is urged to minimize pollution by carpooling, taking public transit, and other eco-friendly actions, as per the National Weather Service.
Cowboys may have perfect chance to steal talented RB thanks to NFC foe
The opportunities were aplenty, but the Dallas Cowboys opted against rebuilding their running back room this offseason. It is worth noting that the 2025 draft is absolutely stacked at the position, so perhaps the front office thought it'd be wiser to plug other holes and wait until next year to draft a stud.
Ransomware Has Outsized Impact on Gas, Energy & Utility Firms
When ransomware targeted the city of Dallas, Texas last year, it took down city services, the municipal water utility's ability to bill and read meters, and emergency services. The city required more than a month to bring all its systems back online. Dallas is not alone. In 2023, two-thirds of...
Pricey mistake: Misprinted 'Harry Potter' book hitting the auction block
A rare uncorrected proof of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone that was bought for just $1.27 is expected to fetch a mint when it is auctioned in Dallas, Texas, on July 25. The opening bid for the book is already at $12,500. Just 200 such proofs were printed with an error on the main title page listing author JK Rowling's name as "J. A Rowling." The rare book up for grabs was purchased by a school in the English village of Minister Lovell. It was forgotten until a local businessman found it, intending to donate it to a museum.
Message to Black consumers in the wake of major procedural changes looming in real estate transactions
(Special to The Dallas Examiner) – In the near future, the home buying process will undergo significant change, particularly in the dynamics between homebuyers, sellers and the real estate agents facilitating the transactions. These changes, stemming from a potential court case settlement, will redefine how home sellers compensate agents for the buyers of their home. The National Association of Real Estate Brokers wants to assure Black families and individuals that our realtists, who often represent buyers, will continue to offer exceptional advice and service. These changes could potentially affect the affordability and accessibility of homeownership for Black families, and NAREB is committed to mitigating these impacts.
Scream It From the Rooftops: July Could Be Done WithTriple-Digit Temperatures
You’ve likely already felt the effects of the cold front that blew through the Dallas-Fort Worth area on Wednesday, and we’re here to break even better news. While we won’t go as far as to say it’s cool out, these less-hot temperatures should be sticking around through the end of July.

Palladium USA Project OK’d for South Loop 12; Could Bring More Housing for Senior Citizens
Dallas plan commissioners recommended last week approving a rezoning request allowing the construction of a four-story, 120-unit retirement community on the southeast corner of Cockrell Hill Road and Blue Ridge Boulevard. The South Loop 12 development could help address the lack of affordable housing specifically suited for senior citizens. Homes...

Just off a long week at SEC Media Days, Alyssa Lang will be KSR’s special guest host for Friday morning’s show.
