Breakdancing, known as Breaking at the Olympics, will not be a part of the LA 2028 Olympics. After debuting at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games and making its appearance at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympic Games, this news has disappointed many breaking fans.

Let’s take a look at why breakdancing did not make the list of events for the 2028 LA Olympics.

Why is Breakdancing not a part of LA Olympics 2028?

Breakdancing is not included in the 2028 LA Olympics, most likely due to the limited number of sports that can be accommodated.

While Breaking has a dedicated fanbase, its overall popularity compared to more traditional Olympic sports might be one of the reasons for its exclusion. It first became part of the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Argentina, where it received significant viewership. As a result, it was also included in the 2024 Paris Olympics. In Paris, Japan took home the gold in the B-girls event, while Canada won the gold in the B-boys event.

However, it unfortunately won’t be returning for the LA Olympics in 2028. The primary reason for this is the intense competition between various sports for inclusion in the Olympic program. Even though this might be a setback for the sport, the community hopes to secure a spot in future Olympics. Australian B-girl Raygun also commented on the exclusion of breaking from the 2028 Olympics. She said, “It was disappointing that it was decided we wouldn’t be in L.A., particularly before we even had a chance to show it.” (via Fox Sports)

The 2028 LA Olympics will feature the return of cricket, baseball, softball, and lacrosse. It will also see the debut of sports like flag football and squash. Cricket will return for the first time in 128 years; the last time it was part of the Olympics was in 1900. The 2028 Olympics will see the sport’s return in Los Angeles in its Twenty-20 format.
