SM Entertainment’s critically renowned K-pop act Red Velvet showed its global impact with the latest Billboard 200 ranking. The girl group has enjoyed domestic popularity since its debut, but its recent success indicates it is also gradually gaining fame in the United States.

Red Velvet debuted in 2014. Since the group’s debut, two of their studio albums and over ten extended plays topped South Korea’s Gaon Album chart. The group also snagged the highest prize in K-pop, Daesang (grand prize), four times: 2019 Asia Artist Awards Song Of The Year Grand Prize, Golden Disc Awards Song Of The Year Digital Daesang in 2016, 2018, and 2021.

K-pop girl group Red Velvet enters Billboard 200 charts with mini-album Cosmic

Red Velvet’s 2024 comeback EP, Cosmic, has ranked 145th in the Billboard 200 weekly chart. This impressive feat marks Red Velvet’s first-ever entry to this chart. Previously, the act ranked number four on the Billboard US World Chart and one on the Billboard US Heat Chart.

Billboard 200 is among the most challenging charts for K-pop stars to crack. The chart primarily focuses on physical sales in the United States. Only a handful of K-pop artists have been able to top the chart, including BTS, Stary Kids, BLACKPINK, TXT, and Seventeen.

Apart from ranking within the top 10 of the Billboard 200, several artists ranked in the Billboard 200, such as BoA, Girls’ Generation, EXO, G-Dragon, BigBang, J-Hope, NCT 127, TWICE, Enhypen, and more groups.

Red Velvet had just finished the first decade of their career, so the new beginning of their second decade feels like a refreshing start with a Billboard 200 charting. The group will also celebrate their footsteps in the new era by meeting fans at concerts in August and September.

The group will hold two concerts at Bangkok’s Impact Arena on August 17 and 18. Later, they will travel to the Philippines for a concert at SM Mall Arena on September 14. Lastly, they will hold a concert at Studio City Event Center in Macau, China, on September 28.
