A new Kraven the Hunter trailer dropped today, August 14, and it contains a quick blink-and-miss shot of Rhino wearing pants. Accordingly, fans are curious about why the character, who in the comics and most Marvel media is depicted without pants, is wearing them. Played by Alessandro Nivola, this Rhino is the second live-action version of the character following Paul Giamatti’s short-lived stint in 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

So, why is Rhino wearing pants in Kraven the Hunter? Here is your answer.

Why is Rhino wearing pants in the Kraven movie?

Rhino wearing pants in Kraven the Hunter is likely a creative decision taken by the makers. It is probable that the makers were inspired by the Hulk. In the comics and most Marvel media like the MCU, the Hulk is depicted with torn blue or purple pants and a torso that is almost always shirtless. This inspiration likely contributed to their decision to feature a Rhino wearing pants and being shirtless.

Moreover, as depicted in the trailer, this Rhino appears to be a mutated creature, presumably due to a science experiment. This depiction is seemingly different from the character’s portrayal in the comics. In the comics, the character retains his human side but ends up getting permanently covered in artificial rhinoceros skin following an experiment.

Furthermore, Kraven the Hunter’s Rhino is also significantly different from Paul Giamatti’s version of the character who used a gigantic mechanical battle armor fitted with weaponry, themed after a rhinoceros, in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Kraven the Hunter is currently scheduled to come out in theaters in December 2024. The film is directed by J.C. Chandor, who previously worked on movies like Triple Frontier, Margin Call, and All Is Lost. Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, who worked on movies like Iron Man and Uncharted, penned the screenplay, alongside Richard Wenk, who also developed the story.

Aside from Alessandro Nivola’s Rhino, the film features Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Russell Crowe, Ariana DeBose, Fred Hechinger, Christopher Abbott, and Levi Miller.
