You can find the Final Jeopardy clue and answer for August 19, 2024 in this guide. The re-run for the Season 40 Jeopardy Tournament of Champions is finally over, with the winner revealed (again) last Friday as Yogesh Raut. That may not be that surprising given that he appeared in this year’s Jeopardy! Masters tournament. For tonight’s match, we will continue off from the tournament straight into a re-airing of the March 20, 2024 episode, which begins the 2024 Jeopardy! Invitational Tournament. Challengers Andre He from California, Dan Pawson from Virginia, and Pam Mueller from Illinois will attempt to earn points during the quarterfinals. Here’s the question and answer for Final Jeopardy on 8/19/2024, along with the wagers and winner of today’s match.

Final Jeopardy Question for August 19

The Final Jeopardy question for August 19, 2024 is in the category of “Trailblazers” and has the following clue:

The foremost member of the “Sochi Six”, which was similar to a previous U.S. group, he died in a plane crash in 1968

The answer to this Final Jeopardy clue has been put in the final section of this guide, so that you don’t accidentally view it.

Final Jeopardy Wagers and Winner for August 19

Andrew He is the winner of the first match in the 2024 Jeopardy! Invitational, which is a bit of a surprise since he was trailing significantly by the end of the first round. But he was able to make a strong comeback in the second round and managed to be the only contestant to get the Final Jeopardy clue correct.

Andrew had $33,600 before the final clue and only needed to wager $1 to win the match outright, which he did. He ended up in first place with $33,601. Pam came into Final Jeopardy with $16,800, exactly half of Andrew’s. So she risked it all, and ended up with $0. Dan finished with $0 as well, starting with $6,400 and wagering his entire sum. Both Pam and Dan came in second place.

Final Jeopardy Answer for August 19

The correct answer for Final Jeopardy on August 19, 2024 is “Who is Yuri Gagarin?”

Born in 1934, Yuri Gagarin is a Soviet pilot and cosmonaut known for being the first person to complete one orbit of Earth while aboard Vostok 1. He was part of The Sochi Six, otherwise known as the Vanguard Six, a group of six members who were selected for an accelerated program to become cosmonauts. After his flight, he became an international icon and further spurred the Space Race with the United States.

Gagarin was a backup crew member for the Soyuz 1, which sadly crashed and took the life of his friend, Vladimir Komarov. This made the Soviet Union choose to protect him and it wasn’t until 1968 that he was allowed to be in any aircraft. However, he died in a routine plane crash on March 27 when his MiG-15 crashed in the town of Kirzhach.
