A24 has released the trailer for Y2K , an upcoming disaster comedy movie set to hit theaters on December 6, 2024. It is written and directed by Saturday Night Live alum Kyle Mooney.

The studio that brought viewers Hereditary, Lady Bird, Moonlight, and more, will be bringing another feature, this time playing on the themes of disaster and nostalgia with its late ’90s and early 2000s references.

    What is in Y2K trailer?

The Y2K trailer features a New Year’s Eve gone rogue. It highlights two high school friends who, as they welcome the year 2000, witness the world fall into massive distraction “as a result of a Y2K breakdown.” The film stars Rachel Zegler (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes) as Laura, Jaeden Martell (Mr. Harrigan’s Phone) as Eli, and Julian Dennison (Deadpool 2) as Danny.

“It’s New Year’s Eve 1999. Two high school nobodies (Martell, Dennison) decide to crash the last big party before the new millennium. When the clock strikes midnight, the night gets more insane than they ever could have imagined,” the synopsis reads.

The rest of the Y2K cast includes Alicia Silverstone (Clueless), Lachlan Watson (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), Mason Gooding (Scream VI), Tim Heidecker (Us), Eduardo Franco (Stranger Things), Miles Robbins (Blockers), Fred Hechinger (The White Lotus), Daniel Zolghadri (Funny Pages), and rapper The Kid Laroi.

Evan Winter co-wrote the movie alongside Mooney, with Jonah Hill serving as the film’s producer. It marks Hill’s latest collaboration with A24 following his feature directorial debut Mid90s. It also marks Mooney’s directorial debut.

Additional producers include Matt Dines, Ali Goodwin, Chris Storer, and Winter.

Y2K had its world premiere at South by Southwest (SXSW) earlier this year and is set to grace theaters for a wider audience on December 6.
